stones into schoolsIn Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Greg Mortenson picks up where Three Cups of Tea left off in 2003. While sharing his broader vision to promote peace through education and literacy, Mortenson also touches on military matters, Islam, and women and weaves all these topics together with the many rich personal stories of the people who have been involved in this remarkable two-decade humanitarian effort.

GregMortensonGreg Mortenson is the cofounder of the Central Asia Institute and Pennies for Peace. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year and is the recipient of Pakistan's highest civil award (The Star of Pakistan) for his sixteen years work to promote education and peace.

Mortenson is a living hero to rural communities of Afghanistan and Pakistan where he has established or significantly supports 131 schools, many in volatile regions. His schools provide education to over 58,000 children, including 44,000 girls, in areas where few education opportunities existed before.

TV newscaster, Tom Brokaw, calls Mortenson, "one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination, who is really changing the world".

Congresswoman Mary Bono (Rep - Calif.) says, "I've learned more from Greg Mortenson about the causes of terrorism than I did during all our briefings on Capitol Hill. He is a true hero, whose courage, and compassion exemplify the true ideals of the American spirit."

We sincerely hope you can join us for this exciting event!
